A better tuning tap

Use light, consistent taps in a quiet room. Let each hit decay before the next. If the input clips, move the phone farther away or tap more gently.

Pitch

Leave both heads free and tap near the center. This is a whole-drum reading, not an isolated head frequency. Presets are starting points, not specifications. A tentative pitch is an estimate from agreeing taps, not a tuning instruction; the offset stays hidden until the signal is clearer. Pitch signal quality is a heuristic, not a probability of accuracy. A filter can be locked only after a stable measured reading; unlock it when changing drums.

Lugs

Lightly mute the center and tap the same distance from each tension rod. The large numbers identify physical lugs; in Star mode, small badges show the capture step. The first stable lug locks the comparison reference; more captures do not move it. Select a finished lug and choose “Use selected lug as reference” to change it.

Heads

Select Batter or Resonant, mute the opposite head consistently, and tap the center of the selected head. The ratio compares those two isolated readings. The editable goal is a listening starting point, not a guaranteed sustain or tone prediction.

Microphone & privacy

Allow microphone access in your browser. Audio is analyzed locally and is not uploaded. Bluetooth and external microphones may change the input source. Keep the app visible while tuning.

Measurement accuracy still needs validation across real drums and devices. Use your ears alongside the readings.
